Each year Fairbury's historic downtown hosts the Summer Arts & Music Festival, the day's events kick off with local artist Lucky Stradley, who demonstrates the ancient Japanese technique of glazing pottery, known as Raku, beginning at 10 am. Kilns will be set up and visitors will have the chance to glaze their own pottery and watch the process from start to finish, plus take home a souvenir. Aerosol artist Tony Once will be demonstrating his own technique of painting using spray paint.
Jared's Super Blues Party will be playing from 10 a.m. to Noon on the sidewalk outside the Tasting Room. At 11 a.m., CB Snider of Totally Smoked BBQ will be serving up ribs and sides, smoked right on the street. Musician Dave Hunt & The Band 37 Years will be entertaining guests inside the Tasting Room where a cash bar offering craft beer and wine will be available, with proceeds benefiting the Fairbury Community Foundation.
At 12 o’clock noon, the Fairbury High School percussion section will be forming a drumline, performing cadences or street beats, a tradition that originates from early military marches. Immediately following, Enigma -The Ultimate Acoustic Duo will be entertaining guests with hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s plus blues and original tunes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Avenue of Flags will be on display on the lawn of the Jefferson County Courthouse for the July 4th holiday. Volunteers are needed to set up the 320 flags on Monday morning, July 3rd at 8 a.m.
