And Artists Symposium

July 2014 - Endorf Enterprises, Fairbury.com, Five Rivers RC&D, and Nebraska's Heritage Highway Association have teamed up to sponsor the first ever Nebraska Authors and Artists Symposium in Fairbury, August 1 – 3. This event is funded in part by Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

With a central theme of “The Old West,” the 2014 Nebraska Authors and Artists Symposium will showcase Nebraska's rich history and bring literary talents to life. Attendees will enjoy book signings and presentations by local and regional authors and speakers, along with live entertainment, tours, delicious food, art & photography, and peer to peer networking opportunities. The conference is open to the public and will appeal to all ages. Details are available at www.NebraskaAuthorsAndArtists.com.

Charlott Endorf, Endorf Enterprises, Fairbury Nebraska Writers SymposiumThe event will kick off on Friday, August 1st at 5 p.m. with a book signing at Stagecoach Mall featuring author Charlotte Endorf, formerly of Fairbury. Endorf has written several books about the Orphan Train and the North Platte Canteen. Endorf is also well known for her portrayal of Annie Oakley and presents programs to schools and civic groups throughout the state as a Humanities Nebraska speaker. Attendees can also participate in Fairbury's First Friday Art Walk by visiting Fairbury's downtown art galleries and enjoy a wine tasting event in The Tasting Room featuring WunderRosa Winery, a selection of hors d'oeuvres and live music by Denise Howe. Featured artist Alan Bartels, Field Editor of Nebraska Life magazine, will be sharing a personal photography exhibit from his travels throughout the state of Nebraska. A raffle quilt by the Jefferson County Quilt Guild will be on display and tickets will be available for purchase.

Architectural Elements Contest 2014, Fairbury NebraskaOn Saturday, August 2nd at the Fairbury Elks Lodge, ten fascinating authors and speakers are scheduled to present programs ranging from Buffalo Bill's Wild West to the art of trick roping. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Fairbury's Architectural Elements Contest, recently featured in Nebraska Life magazine and enjoy the culinary arts of Chef Bob Albrecht of Main Street Coffee House. The event will conclude on Sunday, August 3rd, with free tours of the Fairbury City Museum from 1-4  pm.

Registration deadline for the 2014 Nebraska Authors and Artists Symposium in Fairbury is July 25th and attendees can choose to attend the event in whole or in part. Special lodging arrangements at Fairbury's hotels are available for those wishing to attend multiple days.

The symposium is one of several activities planned in conjunction with the annual Trail of Authors event along Nebraska's Heritage Highway 136, showcasing literary events along the byway during the first weekend of August, with events Red Cloud and Beatrice being planned. Humanities NebraskaThe 2014 Nebraska Authors and Artists Symposium is funded by Humanities Nebraska (HN). Humanities Nebraska funds programs that explore Nebraska's heritage, build community awareness, and strengthen our ties to cultural traditions at home and abroad. The Nebraska Cultural Endowment is a public/private partnership that designates funds to HN for distribution.
