Fairbury.com Endorses Brewer For Congress, Fairbury Nebraska Fairbury.com Endorses Brewer For Congress, Fairbury NebraskaFairbury.com Endorses Brewer For Congress

April 2014 - "Fairbury.com announced this week that it will be endorsing Col Tom Brewer for Congress. Brewer, who is from Gordon, NE, is challenging incumbent Adrian Smith to represent Nebraska’s 3rd District. This announcement comes on the heels of a similar endorsement announced this week by the Fairbury Journal-News.

Brewer, a highly decorated, 36-year military veteran, has been traveling the 3rd District, speaking to voters about issues that concern them the most, namely agriculture, energy policy, foreign policy and immigration. Education (common core) and Obamacare also rank high on the list of things that voters are most frustrated about. “As I speak to voters in my district we share the same concerns including threats to our personal freedoms as Americans, gridlock in Washington and out of control spending and debt. “I believe we need elected representatives with proven leadership ability and global experience to get the job done in Washington, not more politicians.” said Brewer.

Adrian Smith, a self-proclaimed career politician, may well be facing the toughest battle of his political career. In 2006, Adrian Smith stated was his goal to become a “career Congressman.” Additionally, during the 2006 campaign, when speaking at a fundraiser at Liberty University in Virginia, Smith was quoted as saying: “I hope to be in the House for a good long time.... I want to get elected and stay there until retirement.” Smith is eligible for benefits towards retirement as members of Congress need only serve five years to reach eligibility.

Brewer’s grassroots army of supporters is mobilizing for the challenge to bring a new leadership style to Washington, promising action, not partisan politics. The biggest challenge in the final days of the campaign is to maximize resources according to Brewer’s campaign staff, headquartered in Beatrice, NE. “The Brewer campaign does not have a “war chest” of funds from which to draw from. According to the Federal Election Commission, Smith’s campaign receipts total in excess of $621K, whereas the Brewer campaign is reported to have receipts of just slightly over $96K, with much of that being a loan by Brewer (who cashed in his military retirement) to fund his own campaign.  “This is all about doing things the right way for the right reasons and that doesn’t necessarily yield huge amounts of cash,” according to Tony Baker, Field Director.

According to Cally Hartig, Campaign Office Coordinator, the campaign has employed some creative and cost effective ways to mobilize volunteers, such as creating a resource tab on the campaign website (www.TomBrewerForNebraska.com) giving supporters a way to print and distribute their own flyers in their communities. Supporters can also contribute money online and sign up to volunteer. “We are amazed by the response we have gotten all across the state,” said Hartig.

A debate is scheduled for this Friday, April 25th in Scottsbluff at 5:30 p.m. (MST) at the UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center auditorium and the Brewer camp is ready to engage. “The fact that the debate is in Smith’s backyard, makes it a battle that I am trained to fight. I am ready,” stated the retired Colonel. A post-debate rally is planned at the Scottsbluff Country Club and the public is invited to attend.
