Fairbury Nebraska First Friday Art Walk"First Friday" Art Walk
Planned For Friday, April 5th

March 2013 - Downtown Fairbury’s art galleries and specialty shops will once again be open for "First Friday" coming up the first Friday evening of April, the 5th. They will be opening their doors to visitors from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. as part of the "First Friday Art Walk" in historic downtown Fairbury.

The April Art Walk will include 4 stops and participants in the walk will be given punch cards which can be picked up at any of the participating Art Walk locations. All completed cards will then be placed in a drawing for a grand prize.
April’s featured artists are: Colleen Anderson of Alexandria, NE, Lloyd "Rich" Richardson of Fairbury, Ne, Lucky Stradley of Hubbell, Ne and Cindy Chinn of Chester, Ne

Colleen Anderson, Fairbury NebraskaThe April Art Walk at New Earth Clay Pottery, located at 515 4th Street, will feature the works of artist, Colleen Anderson and her father Lloyd, "Rich" Richardson. "We have been working hard this year on a new collection of necklaces.  We have made 75 new necklace/earring sets this winter!  All of the necklaces feature 1-5 beautiful lampwork beads made by my father.  He has expanded his bead making to include a new technique that is more dimensional in the layers of color used.  From these beads I gain color and style inspiration and make my necklaces with new and found beads and findings. He will be bringing his torch and making beads while I share in how I make the necklaces." The works of Anderson and Richardson will be on display and for sale the entire month of April.

Lloyd Richardson, Fairbury NebraskaRichardson is also an amateur blacksmith, creating life-sized birds from welded steel such as owls, whooping cranes and great blue herons. He currently has a pair of whooping cranes doing a courtship dance in the backyard of his residence at 11th & K Streets (Hwy 15) in Fairbury. His next project will involve creating totem poles. According to Anderson, "Dad is currently working on his own totem pole in the yard of his home at 1104 K Street in Fairbury.  When the weather is nice you will find Dad  outside working on his totem pole.  He welcomes all visitors to his yard to share and view in his love of sculpting."

Lucky Stradley, Fairbury NebraskaThe Jefferson County Art Guild located at 511 5th Street, will feature the works of artist Lucky Stradley. Stradley will be featuring Raku, a type of Japanese pottery. In the traditional Japanese process, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air or in a container filled with combustible material which can yield interesting patterns and/or vivid iridescent finishes. Stradley will be featuring jugs, gazing balls and steins.

Lady George and The Dragon, Fairbury NebraskaAlso included on the April Art Walk will be Lady George and The Dragon, located on the east side of the square at 416 E Street. Owners Georgia Acker and Myron Peak offer something unique for all ages. Visitors to their shop will find a variety of items ranging from soy scented candles, hand cast chess sets, and carved Viking runes. They also feature hand blown glass vases, paper weights, figurines of real and fantasy animals, wind chimes and swords.

Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room, Fairbury NebraskaLocated at 508 E Street, Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room will also be open for the April First Friday Art Walk. Here Visitors can view the "century-old" brick wall  and massive limestone fireplace made of sculpted concrete, created by Thom Hunt of BB Studios of Fairbury along with fellow artists as part of the "Decorative Concrete Meets Historic Preservation" class held in Fairbury in 2011. Eighteen artists from the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Brazil came to Fairbury to be trained by Hunt in the techniques of decorative concrete.

Cindy Chinn, Fairbury NebraskaVisitors to Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room will feature the works of artist Cindy Chinn of The Art Department in Chester, Ne. For the April Art Walk, Chinn will share a sampling of various paintings including pieces from her "Journeys" series. According to Chinn, "We all go through life and take different paths. Choices lead us to become who we are and the journey we take is full of highs and lows. Join me as I envision the journeys of the people around me." Chinn’s "Journeys" paintings will be featured at the Governor’s mansion from mid-April to mid-May but other works will remain at Stagecoach Mall for the remainder of the month.
