Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room, Fairbury NebraskaFirst Friday Art Walk Planned For May 3rd

Fairbury’s downtown art galleries will be open for the First Friday Art Walk to be held on Friday, May 3rd beginning at 5 p.m. The May First Friday event will have something for everyone – new featured artists, a wine tasting event with live music scheduled from 6 – 9 p.m., plus the addition of a fundraiser for the Bonham Theatre Project at the Fairbury Elks Lodge, scheduled from 7 – 10 p.m.

There will be four stops on the Art Walk for May including the Jefferson County Art Guild, New Earth Clay Pottery, Lady George and The Dragon and The Tasting Room, inside Stagecoach Mall Antiques. Four featured artists will be displaying their works, which will be available for show and sale all month long.

Jefferson County Art Guild, Fairbury NebraskaThe Jefferson County Art Guild is located at 511 5th Street, across the street from the Campbell Bros Circus Mural. On display for show and sale will be works created by members of the Guild, which meets each Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for "paint-ins." The featured artist for May is Fairbury resident and guild charter member, Depke Andres. Visitors to the Jefferson County Art Guild will see works from Andres’ extensive collection showcasing many different mediums spanning her decades-long career as an artist. Stop by to meet Depke and enjoy refreshments served by Guild members.

New Earth Clay Pottery and Art Gallery, Fairbury NebraskaThe May Art Walk at New Earth Clay Pottery will feature the works of fellow artists and siblings, Linda Siebe and Mark Busing.  Growing up near Fairbury, Mark & Linda learning to use and make do with what materials were at hand. This skill has served them well in their latest artistic endeavors.

Mark uses recycled t-shirts to weave rugs, place mats and hot pads. The original idea came from the hot pad looms that many of us used as children. Using the same principal, Mark expanded the size of the looms and made them adjustable in order to produce several rug sizes and shapes. He has designed numerous weaving patterns to give his rug collection a colorful variety. Mark will be giving a live rug weaving demonstration during the event.

Lady George and The Dragon, Fairbury NebraskaLinda came across the idea of creating guitar string bracelets from a photo she found in a magazine. She gets a steady supply of used guitar strings from her guitar playing husband, Kent. She now makes bracelets, rings and necklaces from guitar strings adding beads, charms, jewels, precious metals and pearls to create unique pieces of jewelry.

Also included on the May Art Walk will be Lady George and The Dragon, located on the east side of the square at 416 E Street. Owners Georgia Acker and Myron Peak offer something unique for all ages. Visitors to their shop will find a variety of items ranging from soy scented candles, hand cast chess sets, and carved Viking runes. They have expanded their product lines to include hand blown glass vases, paper weights, figurines of real and fantasy animals, wind chimes and swords.

Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room, Fairbury NebraskaLocated at 508 E Street, Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room will also be open for the May First Friday Art Walk. Here Visitors can view the "century-old" brick wall  and massive limestone fireplace made of sculpted concrete, created by Thom Hunt of BB Studios of Fairbury along with fellow artists as part of the "Decorative Concrete Meets Historic Preservation" class held in Fairbury in 2011. Eighteen artists from the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Brazil came to Fairbury to be trained by Hunt in the techniques of decorative concrete.

Mark Entzminger, Fairbury Nebraska First Friday Art WalkVisitors to Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room will feature the works of artist Mark Entzminger of Lincoln. Entzminger will be featuring a series of bowls created from wood, turned on a lathe. "I enjoy the challenge of harvesting part of a tree and creating something that is normally thrown away or burned in a fireplace.   The process is not quick nor easy because the materials don’t always cooperate.  Nature has a way to change, move, and simply crack when it wants to.  All I can do is to try and understand what the material wants to do and help it find its way into a form."  Entzminger is currently showing his works at the Sheldon Art Gallery, Gallery Nine and LUX Gallery, all in Lincoln.

Whiskey Run Creek, Fairbury NebraskaThe Tasting Room will once again host a wine-tasting event featuring Whiskey Run Creek Vineyard of Brownville. Whiskey Run Creek will be offering a variety of handcrafted, Nebraska-made wines available for sampling and for sale (must be 21). David Hunt, Fairbury Nebraska First Friday Art WalkThe Tasting Room at Stagecoach Mall will also be featuring the live music of David Hunt of Fairbury who will be entertaining First Friday attendees from 6 – 9 p.m. To complement the wines, a selection of small bites and treats will be available.

A limited number of tickets for the event are available for $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Reserve your advance tickets by calling Julie Katz at 402.613.2063 or by email at Julie@Fairbury.com. Tickets can also be purchased online by visiting www.Fairbury.com. Proceeds from the wine tasting event will benefit local art projects and future First Friday Art Walk events.
