Fairbury First Friday Scheduled for November 1st, Fairbury NebraskaFairbury First Friday Scheduled for November 1st

Fairbury’s First Friday event is scheduled for Friday, November 1st in downtown Fairbury. Beginning at 5 p.m., visitors to downtown Fairbury can visit four stops and enjoy many art forms, including photography, paintings and pottery created by local artists.

Jefferson County Art Guild, Fairbury NebraskaJefferson County Art Guild, located at 520 5th street across from the Campbell Bros Circus Mural, will showcase a selection of art from guild members. The featured artist for November is LaVeda Fry of Fairbury. Visitors will be amazed by Fry’s intricate beadwork which will be on display from 5 – 8 p.m. The guild is open on Mondays for “paint-ins” and anyone is welcome to attend and become a member.

Lady George and The Dragon, Fairbury NebraskaLady George and The Dragon is located on the east side of the square at 416 E Street and offers a variety of items ranging from soy scented candles, hand cast chess sets, and carved Viking runes plus glass vases, paper weights, figurines of real and fantasy animals, wind chimes and swords.

Sims Florist and Gifts, Fairbury NebraskaSims Florist and Gifts is located on the south side of the square at 420 4th street and offers a wonderful selection of seasonal and home décor, hand-crafted and personal gift items.

The Tasting RoomThe Tasting Room is located inside Stagecoach Mall Antiques and features the work of concrete Artist Thom Hunt of Big Bamboo Studios of Fairbury who created a large scale fireplace and “brick” wall sculpted entirely of concrete. Beginning at 6 p.m., The Tasting Room will host a wine tasting featuring Glacial Till Vineyard of Raymond, NE. A large selection of hand-crafted wines including a wonderful port wine will be available for sampling and for sale. A selection of hors d’oeuvres created by Chef Bob of Old Bank Coffee Shop in Nelson will pair beautifully with the wines. Musician and acoustic guitarist Tracy Skretta of Omaha will be entertaining Art Walk attendees until 9 p.m.

New Earth Clay Pottery, Fairbury NebraskaLocated at 515 4th Street, New Earth Clay Pottery features locally made stoneware pottery by Bill Robbins of Fairbury and is Fairbury’s only working pottery and is open on Wednesday and Saturdays. The gallery regularly features (for viewing and for sale) functional stoneware pottery, ceramic art, handmade tiles, jewelry, porcelain, paintings, hand-made paper, photography, sculpture and art glass pieces produced by local & regional artists.  The featured artist for November is Dan Toberer of Omaha. Toberer is co-owner of Hot Shops Pottery, a clay studio located in studio #111 (north of Crystal Forge) at the Hot Shops Art Center. Toberer’s salt-glazed pottery pieces will be featured during the month of November.

The Fairbury First Friday Art Walk is free for all ages. A limited number of tickets for the wine tasting are available for $10 by logging to www.Fairbury.com or by calling Julie Katz at 402.613.2063. Proceeds from the tasting event will benefit local art projects and future First Friday Art Walk events.
