Fairbury Nebraska First Friday Art Walk Fairbury First Friday Art Walk This Friday

April 2014 - Fairbury First Friday Art Walk is scheduled for Friday, May 2nd in downtown Fairbury. The art walk, which is free to the public, begins at 5 p.m. There will be four stops on the art walk featuring the works of several local and regional artists. “Punch cards can be downloaded at www.Fairbury.com or picked up at any stop.  Completed cards will be turned in at Stagecoach Mall and receive a free wine charm,” according to organizer, Julie Katz.

The Jefferson County Art Guild, located at 511 5th Street will be featuring the works of artist Judy Holliger, one of the guest artists, from Diller, NE. Holliger has created a unique art form she calls “Beach Junk Art.”  Her novel creatures are composed entirely of objects found on the beach of the Gulf Coast in Texas. Also at the Art Guild, local musician David Hunt will be singing and playing guitar, entertaining art walk attendees from 5 – 8 pm.

Barb Dedrickson, New Earth Clay Pottery, Fairbury NebraskaNew Earth Clay Pottery, located at 414 4th Street, features the works of potter Bill Robbins and many other local and regional artists. The May First Friday will feature the works of Barb Dedrickson from Clay Center, NE. Dedrickson first picked up a paintbrush over 30 years ago, painting on river rocks, old window, pumpkins, etc. She is probably best known for her baskets and bowls, made from woven pine needles. Visitors to New Earth can meet Dedrickson and learn more about her craft.

Lady George and The Dragon, Fairbury NebraskaLady George and The Dragon is located on the east side of the square at 416 E Street and offers a variety of items ranging from soy scented candles, hand cast chess sets, and carved Viking runes plus glass vases, paper weights, figurines of real and fantasy animals, wind chimes and swords.

Cindy Chinn, Fairbury NebraskaStagecoach Mall Antiques will feature the latest work of artist Cindy Chinn of Chester. Chinn is an accomplished painter and sculpture and has now added wood carving to her resume. Chinn will be featuring a church pew on which she carved the Dirty Low Dogs, Fairbury Nebraskacrucifixion scene, complete with a stained glass backdrop.Photos and information about the project can be viewed online at www.carvedchurchpews.com.

The Tasting Room, located inside Stagecoach Mall will host a wine tasting featuring Whiskey Run Creek of Brownville, NE. A selection of hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by Chef Bob Albrecht. Live music featuring “The Dirty Low Dogs”  will be entertaining Art Walk attendees with James Taylor style folk music until 9 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.Fairbury.com or at the door.  Proceeds benefit future art walk events and promotion of the arts in downtown Fairbury.
