Scheduled For Oct 3rd

Fairbury’s First Friday event is scheduled for Friday, October 3rd in downtown Fairbury. Beginning at 5 p.m., visitors to downtown Fairbury can enjoy many art forms, including photography, paintings, sculpture and pottery created by local artists.

The October Art Walk will include 3 stops and participants in the walk will be given punch cards which will be placed in a drawing for a grand prize.

Nancy Wilson, Jefferson County Art Guild, Fairbury NebraskaThe first stop on the art walk is the Jefferson County Art Guild is located at 511 5th Street, across the street from the Campbell Bros Circus Mural. On display for show and sale will be works created by members of the Guild, which meets each Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for "paint-ins" and Wednesday evenings for art classes. The October art walk will feature the works of Beatrice artist, Nancy Wilson. Follow the leaf trail to the Art Guild where Wilson will feature her fiber art creations. She transforms fabric into "Homemade Treasures".

Being of German descent Nancy "goes a wandering" to foreign countries. Several "Homemade Treasures" incorporate ideas and fabric from her travels. On her most recent trip she visited a fabric store in St. Petersburg Russia.  A graduate of Peru State College Nancy was an Art Consultant at BSDC for four years and currently works for Region V in Beatrice. She has been a member of the Beatrice Art Guild since 2004. There will be a drawing for a "Homemade Treasure" at 7:30pm. Visitors to the Guild will be able to meet Wilson and enjoy live music by Fairbury musician, David Hunt.

New Earth Clay Pottery, Fairbury NebraskaLocated at 515 4th Street, New Earth Clay Pottery features locally made stoneware pottery by Bill Robbins of Fairbury and is Fairbury’s only working pottery. The gallery regularly features (for viewing and for sale) functional stoneware pottery, ceramic art, handmade tiles, jewelry, porcelain, paintings, hand-made paper, photography, sculpture and art glass pieces produced by local & regional artists.  The gallery doors will be open for the art walk from 5 – 8 p.m.

Valerie Knobel, Stagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room, Fairbury NebraskaStagecoach Mall Antiques and Tasting Room, located at 508 E Street, will feature the works of artist Valerie Knobel, showing a new collection of oil paintings featuring area Nebraska landscapes entitled, “Nebraska Land and Sky.” Knobel has been studying and painting the Nebraska landscape for over 30 years. She serves as Departmental Chair and Professor of Art for Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where she teaches art and visual culture studies. Valerie holds a BA in Studio Art and an MA in Design, and has completed further study at The International Institute of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in Todi, Italy.

Sue and The Blue River Czechs, Fairbury NebraskaVisitors to The Tasting Room will celebrate Oktoberfest, a craft beer and wine-tasting event to benefit the Bonham Theatre Project. Live polka music by Sue and the Blue River Czechs will entertain First Friday attendees from 6 – 9 p.m. Tickets are $10, available at the door and includes a selection of hors d’oeuvres by Chef Bob Albrecht of Nelson.
