DeWitt Native Featured Artist For Fairbury First Friday, Fairbury NebraskaDeWitt Native Featured Artist
For Fairbury First Friday

One of the featured artists for the Fairbury First Friday Art Walk on November 1st  is Cody Wheelock, a very talented individual who grew up in DeWitt, Nebraska and graduated from Tri County Jr.-Sr. High School in 2006. Wheelock has been creating artwork for as long as he can remember, illustrating his own comic books when he was in elementary and completing his first commissioned portrait when he was just 13 years old.

Following high school, Wheelock earned his B.S. in Human and Education Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his M.A. in Art Education from Boston University. He now resides in Omaha and shares his expertise with others as an Art Instructor at Fremont Senior High School. When he is not teaching, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, cheering on the Huskers, and pursuing his passion for art.

Wheelock notes that in this contemporary world, traditional artwork is making a comeback. With that in mind, he strives to recreate the high quality work and craftsmanship for which many artists of the past have become well-known. His work focuses on the simple subjects in life: an early morning landscape shimmering with the first light of day, a simple yet introspective still life composition, and capturing the likeness and personality of loved ones in portraits. While representational in nature, Wheelock's work emphasizes abstract relationships between formal qualities such as value, edge, and color. His overarching goal is to capture the essence of the subject in a way that allows viewers to stop and rediscover the beautiful moments that surround them in everyday life.

Wheelock recently began his own business, Wheelock Paintings & Portraiture, and completes a variety of paintings and drawings for his clients. He has a small studio in his home where he can work on commissioned pieces and those for his personal collection. If you would like more information on Wheelock Paintings & Portraiture and a preview of his talents, please visit www.wheelockpaintings.com or "like" his Facebook page. He puts in-progress photos up on his Facebook page regularly, in addition to details about upcoming showings and events.

For the November Art Walk, Wheelock will be set up inside the Stagecoach Mall Antiques & Tasting Room and plans to display a combination of portraiture and landscapes. Everyone is invited to stop by and take a look at his masterpieces! If you would like a one-of-a-kind portrait of yourself or a loved one or just want to watch him in action, then you are in luck. He will be doing 20-minute charcoal portraits for $15 each at this event. These make great Christmas presents and can be cherished for years to come! So, be sure to mark your calendars if you wish to be a part of this fun opportunity.

Wheelock's artwork will be on display at the Stagecoach Mall Antiques & Tasting Room throughout the month of November, so if you can't make it to the Art Walk, there is still plenty of time to admire his work!
