![]() ![]() Jansen Christian Academy 57309 715 Rd P.O. Box 101 Hours: Jansen Christian Academy consists of families that are presently home schooling together in a self-directed learning environment. We are working through the process of becoming an approved school for K through grade 6. Our curriculum provides us with 170 lessons of material. Because our schedule is flexible, we will meet until the 170 lessons are completed. Kindergarten is only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, all day. After Christmas, K-5 will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We register with the Nebraska State Department of Education under Rule 13 each year. All students age 6-18 must be registered. You can visit this website to learn more: www.nde.state.ne.us [click on A-Z Topic List and go to Exempt (home) School]. Briefly, Rule 13 says that state education laws interfere with the parent's religious beliefs. (If you choose to enroll your child, we will help you with your part in registering with the State.) We must complete all the paperwork and send it to the State Department of Education by August 1st of each year. Jansen Christian Academy has an application process that must be followed for each new student. There will be a $50 non-refundable application fee. We use the A Beka Book curriculum (www.abeka.com) from Pensacola, FL, for all students. It is the Bible-based curriculum. Each family will purchase their own books and any accompanying teacher keys and curriculum guides; if not already on hand or if the curriculum has been updated; and provide their own school supplies. When you are ready to order, please contact Mrs. Carpenter. Each year the students get a monthly newspaper on their own grade level called "God's World". This is similar to the Weekly Reader and the cost is included in the supply fee. All students in grades 7-12 will be using DVD's from A Beka Academy. Once 9th grade is reached, parents will have the option of enrolling their child in A Beka Academy (by long distance), paying tuition, and letting A Beka Academy keep the grades and issue a diploma, thus eliminating the need to take the GED tests upon completion of all high school material. All students in grades 3-11 will be tested (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) each spring (usually in May) at the parents' expense (it was $44 in 2009 plus tax and return shipping). Grade 12 students will take the ACT for college entrance. Incoming students, grade 3 and up, must submit their previous school year's test scores before being enrolled, or submit the previous year's report card. New student applications will be accepted until June 1, with the exception of missionaries supported by Jansen Bible Church who have returned to the area during the school year, or by a special decision of the Board of Directors. Incoming student, grade 3 and up, cannot be more than five months below their present grade level in Reading, Math and Grammar in order to be accepted. All students in first grade or older must be able to follow instructions and work quietly and independently. Until further notice, we are limiting enrollment to twenty student. We will maintain a waiting list. Calls of inquiry may be directed to Mrs. Carol Carpenter at (402) 424-2975. Each student is reponsible for bringing his/her own lunch each day. Microwaves, stovetops and ovens are available for use. Please do not send soft drinks or kool-aid for your child to drink. You may send juice or milk, or the students may drink water. Each child will be responsible for washing his own dishes and helping once or twice a week on kitchen cleanup. We take one or two field trips each school year, usually one in the fall and one in the spring. Parents are welcome to attend and may be needed to help provide transportation. Money for gas will be figured out after the trip is taken and the parents will be billed per person in attendance. If serious discipline problems arise, the teacher will talk with the student and then the student's parents. If the problem persists, the teacher and perhaps another adult will meet with the parents and the student. Should the problem continue after that, the teacher, student, and parents will meet with the Board of Directors, and the Board will decide whether the student will continue his/her enrollment at Jansen Christian Academy. Students should show respect for the teacher, other sudetns and their possessions, and the building in which they meet. One-time non-refundable application fee $50
