Fairbury Youth Tackle Football in Fairbury NebraskaFairbury Youth Tackle Football, Fairbury NebraskaFairbury Jr. Jeffs

Sunday September 18, the Fairbury Jr. Jeffs traveled to Geneva to face the Panthers of Fillmore Central. This game proved to be the most challenging in the past year for the Jr. Jeffs as the two seasoned teams began the battle.   Each team began by handing each other fumbles until the Panthers drew first blood with it’s speed around the corner. At the beginning of the second quarter Fillmore Central lead 6 to 0.  Two plays later the Jr. Jeffs decided to answer with a 75 yard touchdown run by Jacob Johnson.   This gave the Jr. Jeffs the confidence to stiffen and hold the Panther s scoring till late in the game. This also gave the Jr. Jeffs a weapon to use for the next two quarters. Johnson would bust loose for two more TD’s one of 70 yards and one of 55 yards.  Adam Wasserman ran for a TD as well to bring the Jr. Jeffs the points needed to win 24-14.  Along with Johnson’s 204 yards rushing Cayman DeBoer also added yardage to the offence.  Wasserman lead the passing attack with an incredible 86%compleation rate for 74 yards. Leading receivers for the Jr. Jeffs were Johnson, 62 yards, Nate Smith for 10 yards and Zach Holes for 2.  These numbers were brought to you by the aggressive blocking of many on our offensive linemen.

On the defensive side of the ball the Jr. Jeffs spread out the tackling duties. Johnson had 8 tackles, Smith with 7, C. DeBoer, Holes, and Dawson DeBoer had 5, as Ryan Arnold and Keyten Pfingsten each had 4.  C. DeBoer, Arnold and Holes also fell on fumbles.

Over shadowing the impressive victory was the loss of Johnson in the 3rd quarter to a broken forearm.  Even though the play essentially ended the 6th graders playing season, he points out that he did not drop the ball. Many thoughts and prayers were expressed by both teams following the injury. These were certainly appreciated. On the lighter side, Johnson posted the photos of his broken arm within ½ hour of the injury on his facebook page.

Coach Hinrichs commented,  “Jacob was unstoppable through 2 ½ quarters, its going to take an offensive adjustment and we are going to need some kids to fill the gap left by Johnson but we have Great kids and a Great team that will accept the challenge.” The Jr. Jeffs will try to remain undefeated as they travel to York to face the Dukes next Sunday; all of the fan support is certainly appreciated.

A Jr. Jeff JV game was also played prior to the varsity game. This gave the younger boys an opportunity to show there talents as well. They defeated the Fillmore JV by the score 32 -0.  Isaiah Wofford lead the rushers with 122 yards and a TD.  He also ran a70 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  Arnold added 3 TD runs and Kellen Parrack added a conversion. The JV tackling leaders were Jesse Kagy, Wofford, Damian Cervantes and Ethan Novotny.

Jacob’s thoughts on the game may include,
266 total yards: Awesome,
8 tackles: pretty good,
Friends who will Pray for you: Priceless.
