One question was asked. Twenty-two hands went into the air. Thousands of youth in the Midwest have benefited. Many in Fairbury heard this powerful message last Wednesday (Jan. 18). Dr. Tom Osborne, founder of TeamMates mentoring program, along with wife Nancy asked a simple question 25 years ago to a group of 22 UNL football players.
In 1991, Nebraska legend Tom Osborne and his wife, Nancy, founded TeamMates, a mentoring program intended to provide school age children an individual, one-on-one relationship with an adult mentor. While classroom education is important, many feel it is not the be-all and end-all of a child’s educational development.
TeamMates coordinators, board members and mentors from over 100 communities across Nebraska, Iowa and California gathered at TeamMates Annual Partnership Meeting. Each year the two day meeting brings together the TeamMates leadership for training, guest speakers, and educational session.
