The Fairbury Youth Tackle Football Jr. Jeffs came to Jefferson Field Sunday with their 1-0 record to face the 1-0 Raiders of Wymore. Anticipating the need for a strong defense this Sunday, the Jr. Jeffs stood strong on Wymore’s first drive forcing a 3 and out. The Jr. Jeffs first offensive play from scrimmage was a 45 yard touch down pass from Blake Bauer to Jacob Johnson. With the 2 point conversion, a pass from Adam Wasserman to Johnson, the Jeffs stuck a dagger into the Raiders heart and never looked back winning the game 28-0. Along the way the Jr. Jeffs defense was unmerciful in the shutout with Antonio Kappelman, Wasserman and Johnson all getting interceptions. Leading tacklers were Johnson, Cayman DeBoer, Damian Green and Tybor Smith. Tanner Novotny also recovered a fumble.
Offensively, Blake Bauer was 12 for 16 through the air with 172 yards passing; two of his three touchdown passes were to Kappelman. Johnson had 7 grabs for 122 yards. Dalton Meyer, DeBoer and Wasserman were also recipients of the passing attack from Bauer. Bauer had one rushing TD. Others runners were DeBoer, Meyer, Kappelman and Wasserman. None of these gains would have been possible without the strong Jr.Jeff offensive line.
A Fifth quarter was played and the younger Jr. Jeffs played to a 6-6 tie with the Raiders. This allowed several boys to gain even more on-field experience.
Next Sunday the Jr. Jeffs will host McCool Junction at Fairbury’s Jefferson Field. The contest will start at 2:30 p.m. Fairbury Youth Tackle Football appreciates all of the community support so please plan to join us for a nice afternoon of football. A concession stand and FYTF t-shirts will also be available for our super fans.
