The Jr. Jeffs of Fairbury Youth Tackle Football won their first game Sunday September 12 at the new Jefferson Field against the Thayer Thunder 18 to 6.
The Thunder started the game with a Bang, a huge kick off return lead to a quick 6 points. The Jr. Jeffs recovered from this blow by playing great defense the remainder of the game. On offence, the Jr. Jeffs finished the first half with a 2 yard run by Quarterback Blake Bauer. The half ended with a 6-6 tie.
The Jr. Jeffs came alive in the 2nd half with a pair of 3rd quarter touchdown passes from Bauer to Jacob Johnson. The first was a 43 yarder assisted by a tremendous down field block by Antonio Kappelman. The other scoring drive ended with a perfect in stride pass from Bauer to Johnson for 45 yards. The leading rushers for the Jr. Jeffs were Dalton Meyer, Cayman DeBoer and Blake Bauer, Antonio Kappleman also ran well with the assistance of the strong Offensive line.
The swarming Jr. Jeff defense kept the Thunder out of the end zone for 3 quarters. Leading tacklers for the Jr. Jeffs were Jacob Johnson, Zac Holes, Adam Wasserman and Damian Green.
A fifth quarter was played after the game to give the younger boys some experience. Both teams have a bright future as the younger boys dueled for a tough quarter of play.
Fairbury Youth Tackle Football want to thank the fans, parents and officials for their support, a special thanks to Naomi Lutze for singing the National Anthem. The next contest will be at 2:30 next Sunday in Fairbury at Jefferson Field, Home of the Jr. Jeffs. We hope more football fans will join us to support these fine young players.
