On behalf of our founders, Tom and Nancy Osborne, we thank you for your interest in mentoring. TeamMates is a school-based mentoring program which means that mentoring takes place on school grounds during school hours. The school connection tells youth that school is important and our data shows an improvement in grades, attendance and behavior as a result.

As a mentor we are asking you to give one hour per week to a young person between grades three through twelve. You identify the age you are comfortable with and we’ll make the match. We ask for a minimum of one school year with the goal of following your mentee through high school graduation.

Teammates Founder Visits Fairbury

One question was asked. Twenty-two hands went into the air. Thousands of youth in the Midwest have benefited. Many in Fairbury heard this powerful message last Wednesday (Jan. 18). Dr. Tom Osborne, founder of TeamMates mentoring program, along with wife Nancy asked a simple question 25 years ago to a group of 22 UNL football players.

Friends of Fairbury: Team Players

In 1991, Nebraska legend Tom Osborne and his wife, Nancy, founded TeamMates, a mentoring program intended to provide school age children an individual, one-on-one relationship with an adult mentor. While classroom education is important, many feel it is not the be-all and end-all of a child’s educational development.
