The big news this month is that over 3,258 magazines have now been added to the Nebraska OverDrive Libraries collection! Most (2,400) are in English, 182 are in Spanish, and the remaining 858 are in various other languages, including French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and more. Multiple people can check each magazine at the same time meaning there are no holds! Search for a specific title using the search bar, or click on the Collections link in the Overdrive app, or What’s New in Libby to browse the entire list!
Our ebook and audiobook collection is a convenient way to discover and borrow titles anytime from anywhere. If you’d like to take advantage of our digital offering but don’t know how or where to begin, OverDrive’s Getting Started with Libby virtual sessions have you covered! Now, you can explore historic editions of the Fairbury Journal-News from the comfort of your home with just your library card! The Library is partnering with Newspaper Archives to digitize old issues of the newspaper currently available on microfilm that will then be available through our library’s subscription.
The last piece of news is that the library has changed it’s overdue book policy. The library is no longer charging overdue fees. However, once items have been overdue three days or more, patrons will be notified by text message, e-mail, phone call or letter as a reminder of the overdue items. After ten days, overdue materials will be considered lost and the patron charged for replacement cost. Checkout privileges will be suspended until the items are paid for or returned. Lost charges will be removed from patron records once an item is returned . This policy is retroactive. Next time you visit the library, if you have overdue fines on your card, we will waive them. This only applies to overdue fines, not lost/damaged material fines or other fees.

- The Fairbury Public Library has an internal computer system with some new options for patrons. If you have an e-mail address or a cell phone with a text plan you can receive a notice three days ahead of when your books are due as well as be informed of any overdue books or books on hold for you. Online through the card catalog page on this website you can log in to your library account using your card number and password (phone on file) and review books you have out, place holds on titles you want and update your contact information. You can also create a list of books you have read or wish to read using the bookmark option.
- If you cannot come to the library to pick up books, now would be a perfect opportunity to take advantage of our electronic resources. E-books and audiobooks can be downloaded from Overdrive, audiobooks and magazines can be downloaded from RBDigital, and you can learn a new language from Mango. All you need is your library card number. Please call (402-729-2843) us if you have questions about accessing these resources, or anything else, during this time.
